Fixtures - PRA Pony Racing Coach Training - Moor Place Gallops, Hampshire

Entry Requirements

This Pony Racing Coach Training is an interactive CPD for experienced, confident coaches to develop their knowledge of the sport. The day is for:


·       PRA, RSDP and BHA coaches


·       Experienced Pony Club coaches who, after attending this CPD session, will pass their knowledge of Pony Racing on to other coaches within their Area/region to increase the number of Pony Club coaches who are confident to deliver Pony Racing rallies


·       Coaches who have experience of coaching groups of children (aged 8 to 16) in open spaces and are interested in coaching for the PRA


The purpose of this training session is to:


·       Explain the Pathway into Racing, through Pony Racing and the training pathway and opportunities available for young riders https://ponyracingauthority.co.uk/pathwayIntoRacing


·       Demonstrate how unmounted activities can be used to improve fitness, balance, technique and confidence


·       Discuss the preparation of pony and rider for a race day and what to expect on the day


·       Run through rules/regs including vaccinations, qualifying and entering PRA and PC Pony Races


·       Demonstrate and fit the tack, rider PPE and equipment required for Pony Racing  


·       Show the progression from coaching riders in an arena to safely and effectively coaching on the gallops, the benefits of this ahead of racing and the transferable skills developed by riders and ponies


·       Support with structuring and delivering safe, effective & engaging Pony Racing Training/Coaching sessions 


The day will run from 10.45am for an 11am start until 3pm.

To prepare participants, there will be a short/30 minute online session around a week before the day (date and time tbc) – the link will be sent to those registered. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.


This is an interactive, hands on day. The unmounted sessions will be inside in the morning. The riding coaching will be outside in an arena and on the gallops. Please wear suitable footwear for coaching/walking.


This coach training session counts as PRA and Pony Club CPD and costs £10
