Join the PRA

Come pony racing with us!

To enter PRA Races, children must become a member of the PRA.

We run three types of races for our members:

Point-to-Point Pony Races from January to May/June
Racecourse Series Races from May to October/November and
Training Races, stand alone races for beginners that take part at different times of the year.

Please note, children do NOT need to be PRA Members to attend Taster Days or Training Days.

How long does membership last for?

PRA Membership for children aged 9-16 years of age runs annually from January through to December.
2024 Member accounts will expire on 31 December 2024.
2025 Membership opens in late December for 2025, expiring on 31 December 2025.

How much does it cost and what do members receive?

Membership is £45 for the year regardless of the time of year a child joins.  Each new PRA member receives a copy of the regulations for that year and a Medical Record Book.  This Medical Record Book stays with the member for the duration of their pony racing career and should be taken to each and every PRA Pony Race they take part in.  If joining before or during the Point-to-Point Pony Racing season, members will also receive a copy of the Point-to-Point Pony Racing Planner for the year, which contains details of all upcoming Point-to-Point Pony Racing fixtures.

In addition, members will also have free access to the brilliant Racing2Learn website which contains a number of learning modules for parents and children alike on topics such as Walking the Course and The Healthy Horse.

PRA Members are also covered by PRA Insurance underwritten by Howden Insurance.

What do I do once I have signed a child up as a member?

To make a race entry once a child is a PRA member, you must register the pony your child wishes to race on your account.  All riders must qualify on the pony they wish to race and there are different routes to do this. Find out how to qualify here.

Pony Registration is simple, just follow the steps on the website to your PRA account. You should have your pony's passport to hand when registering as you will need to enter information such as their passport and microchip numbers.  You will also need clear photographs of your pony's vaccinations (which must comply with our regulations) which you will be ask to upload to your account.

Pony Registrations take place weekly, closing every Friday at 12, noon. Ponies not registered before this time are automatically passed on to the following week's registrations list.  It does not cost anything to register a pony with the PRA but ponies will only be approved when registered with all the required information and an eligible jockey.
